***UPDATE**** Please read the following news article by deviantart staff for more information:
news.deviantart.com/article/69…Okay, so maybe it's not a virus, but I believe I was suckered into doing something on dA that I'd never do in an email.
Someone left a comment. Someone that I didn't recognize - on an older photo. It said
rofl this may be relevant to your interests (there was a hyperlink to an external website).
So I visited the other person's main page, they were legit. Had a subscription. Had deviations posted, etc... And I thought, okay - it's safe enough.
The page said "oh no" a few times, and please wait... loading..........
And I kept seeing deviantart URL's loading... Finally I hit stop and went back...
Now I get a comment from another user telling me that the link I left them didn't work...
So I look, and sure enough, I've spammed a zillion other random dA users - ONLY I DIDN'T.
An example is the following comment, supposedly, apparently, left by me (but I didn't visit this page till someone left a comment on my page telling me my link didn't work and I looked at my "activity" page and saw a whole list of comments that I didn't leave...
Look at the comment I supposedly posted here: [link]
I have already contacted the dA helpdesk but the damage is done....
BE VERY CAREFUL about clicking links (especially to external sites) in comments, because you might get turned into a spam generator.
***Note: This affected multiple accounts. I use Google Chrome over here, and Firefox over there, and when the link didn't appear to work on one, I pasted it into the other, and as a result both accounts "spammed" other users. ***
